			<description><![CDATA[ Received Jack&#39;s new book for Christmas. While I always enjoy him, he obviously had help and there is not much new in training insights for anyone that has
been at it for a while. There are some fun stories, like how Jack tried drinking blood while in his younger years after hearing about a very tall tribe of
warriors in Africa doing the same), and some vintage photos (especially the one from Muscle Beach with three guys standing on each other&#39;s shoulders, and
all three on top of one guy doing a gymnast&#39;s bridge or reverse pushup).

It is obviously tamed down for the masses and contradicts some of the other more spartan advice I have read or heard in interviews over the years. I had
entertained hopes of learning what his $10,000 workout challenge was like, or training strategies to get to 1,000 pullups, or did he really have a bad shoulder
that he had cortisone shots for while constantly training till it got better, etc.

			<description><![CDATA[ I read in an interview that this was his recommendation. I&#39;ll see if I can find the link today. It seems that he often recommended to the public some
pretty tame routines, but in some interviews he would let his more hard core self come through. When asked about treadmills, he said that they were OK, but you
had to run like someone was chasing you. Though he is known for more endurance type work, he stated that the premise behind his $10,000 workout challenge was
that he lifted very heavy weights with little or no rest.

			<description><![CDATA[ Had some spare time this holiday weekend to do a little browsing. There is a lengthy and satisfying 2007 interview with Marvin Eder. I&#39;m no computer whiz
and am unsure how to link or privacy laws, but it comes up pretty easily when googling. An amazing and down to earth guy.

Jack Lalanne has a newer book out &quot;Live Young Forever&quot;. Over 200 pages, with over 50 pages on weight training, and I&#39;m sure plenty of inspiration
and healthy living advice.

			<description><![CDATA[ I was surprised to read Bob&#39;s post that Jack was a sickly kid. I think he is a genetic freak(along with a boatload of hard work) judging by his longevity
and actually getting better when most are falling by the wayside. The answer is probably everything(and more) that was mentioned in the posts----positive
attitude,great genetics,diet,probably no booze or junk. Getting to Marvin Eder,he is probably the most amazing guy ever!!!!! and my favorite of all time. I
heard he is a plumber in Long Island.I would love to get a hold of him and pick his brain. It would be great to get him on this forum also. If you want to be
amazed check some of his feats of strength,along with maybe the best build of any drug free man ever!!!!! ]]></description>

			<description><![CDATA[ I, too, am a big fan of Jack LaLanne. I remember his show, and I also remember him guest-starring on The Addams Family TV show ( don&#39;t ask me why but I
remember.) Bob is right, Jack is known primarily for muscular endurance- he has no equals. He also developed a tremendous phsique during his bodybuilding days.
I have a large autographed photo of him hanging on one of my walls. The photo was from the 40s, but his physique would rival those of anybody around today.
Along with Bob Hoffman, he was many years ahead of his time. He encouraged regular exercise years before it became popular. He encouraged people to eat healthy
decades ago. He advocated exercise for pregnant women when it was considered harmful. He advocated exercise for patients recovering from surgery. His
philosophy has withstood the test of time. If you could construct a &quot;Mount Rushmore&quot; of physical culture in terms of who has had the greatest and
most postive influence over the most people I&#39;m sure... ]]></description>

			<description><![CDATA[ Jack was a follower of Paul Bragg who got him started when Jack was about 16. I read somewhere that Jack felt so sick as a kid that he thought he was ging to
die. He ate mostly soda pop and junk food he says and felt weak and sick. After he followed Bragg he felt so good that he decided to devote his life to it. He
broke with bragg on a lot of stuff like meat but Bragg got him started. He advocated eating meat in the book I have here (1960) but I know he has gone back and
forth on the meat eating. I think during his serious barbell training days he did eat meat.

Now if you want a REAL enigma, I know of one its MARVIN EDER. Marvin trained with extremely high volume before drugs. Marvin was one of the strongest men to
ever walk the planet and maybe THE STRONGEST pound for pound. He is still training hard and is healthy and living in the New York area. ]]></description>

My thoughts on what helps him do this, plus live a happy, energetic life is that he absolutely believes in what he does, and maybe some heavy duty nutritional
supplementation.  Though I&#39;m not a big supplementer, he said that that was a big part of what helped him do such stunts as 1,000 pullups.
