Okay...obviously I want my shoulder to heal completely first...but what is the best way to increase your ONE rep max on bench. I know some don't like the
bench, but I live in a small community and that is the only lifting exercise that has an annual competition. I'm working on all lifts (squats, deads, bent
over rows, etc...), so it's not like chest is my only body part that I work on. Would love to hear some real life experiences on what worked best for you.

Al I have had alot of sucess with starting the bench press from the bottom off the pins of a power rack. i have had sucess with doing 3 sets of doubles
also--warm up then three work sets of two reps. micro load the weight increases. Partials are good also. Bands and chains never made sense to me,the load gets
lighter on the negetive which seems the opposite of what you want to me. But alot of people use them and swear by them.

Bur remember, you have to do these on a stability ball.
Sorry. Couldn't resist. Keith. |

Bottom position benches and bench lockouts are both extremely effective. It just depends on what your weakest link is. If you're stronger from the bottom
than at the lockout ( like me ) then bench lockouts done in a power rack for three sets of triples will help tremendously. If you're stronger at the top,
but weaker off the chest, then simply do bottom position benches for the same 3 x 3. Other assistance exercises, like inclines, dips, etc., are also effective
so long as you don't overtrain them. As for the chains, bands, and other crapola, I agree with Jgriff: They never made any sense to me. Avoid the gimmicks,
just honestly determine your strong/weak points, then it's just a matter of putting the time and work.

That's the way all squats should be done from now on. In fact, let's try to find a way to incorporate tiny, individual balls on the bottom of each
shoe, so that way the person exercising ( notice I didn't refer to him as a lifter) could just put his ball-shoes on and have at it, without requiring a
"trainer." I wonder why he isn't doing deadlifts or clean and jerks on the stability ball? How about overhead presses? I'm on my way to the
sporting goods store to get me one of those things.

Do people really do squats like that? I've heard they do, but never thought anyone could be so stupid. That photo has to be a fake.....doesn't it?

I hope to God that it's a fake--or at least have the "trainer" banned from ever training somebody again until he gets some brains in his head.
He's going to cause somebody to get seriously injured.

I remember a while ago one of the lifting boards had a thread on someone suing the fitness center they used after they got hurt when the stability ball they
were doing heavy bench presses on burst. Ah, Darwinism.
