Deadlift - The number 1 exercise |

Hello everyone, My name is Mark Winchester and I am total beleiver in physical culture as I see weight training as part of the physical culture puzzle
(particularly Deadlifting). I am former squatter until I critically analyzed the squat; why I was doing it and what I was getting out of it. I could no
longer see how sciatica down my thighs, herniated lumbar discs, sore patella tendons & finally cervical vertebrae numbness could be beneficial in my quest
for physical culture. I no longer squat, and am dedicated to the Deadlift & helping those interested individuals learn of how the Deadlift can transform
they're overall physical health. I honestly beleive if all the exercise a person did regularly consisted of the Deadlift he reap a huge improvement in
health, strength, flexibility, digestion, etc.. One small tip is don't use a belt. This may sound totally rediculous but I think the use of a belt
prevents the lifter from deriving all the benfits the deadlift holds.
Glad to be here among those who like me value physical culture.

Another tip is to follow The Anabolic Diet as I don't feel anyone really needs much carbs and meat is generally more healthy than the avg. american diet. I
also use daily cups of green tea which has amazing positive health benefits.

I'm amazed that you can deadlift with all those problems.

Those problems eventually went away once my lumbar vertebrae re-aligned. I think the very thing which has helped the proliferation of sound weight training
advice has equally hurt the real value of training w/ weights. Young men see men w/ 1 in a few million genetics and naturally assume "If I follow so &
so's training program or buy X-brand of protein powder I'll eventually look like Mr Whatever on the cover of _____". This just isn't going to
happen in 99% of the cases, and the frustrated trainee gives up and abandons an otherwise incredibly healthy habit (strength training). Today a hopeful
neophyte knows about drugs than exercise and the situation is made even worse.
I know this because for a long time I was that hopeful, ignorant trainee. Now I know the true value of Physical Culture. Now all I do and will ever do is DEADLIFT, which was once called the HEALTHLIFT btw, and I much happier being a Physical Culturist. As I initially stated weight training is only piece of the puzzle, NOT the entire pie.

How does the deadlift aid in digestion?

Good question GRFFN. I'm not sure but I think its something to w/ the downward pressure wave the intense contraction of the abs creates.

DL495,
Is the deadlift the only lift you do? Keith. |

What other movements do you do? What about variations of the deadlift like stiff-legged deads, deads off the block, snatch-grip, etc.?

Right, I do vary some. I plan on deadlifting the bar off the blocks (partials). Never is increasing the ROM the answer IMO. Bill Piche wrote a great article
Monster Deadlifts which is great. I've found w/ the DL single progressive is best plan, for me anyway.

Its interesting to me how when stimulated to grow (DEADLIFT) the muscles on the posterior side of the body (traps, lats, glutes, hams, calves) are much more
useful/impressive than any muscles of the anterior (pecs, quads, biceps, etc.). Yet more reasons to follow The Anabolic Diet & DEADLIFT.

grffn wrote: My priority is using the DEADLIFT & 1-arm press as part of my Physical Culture regimen, as there are numerous pieces to the puzzle and strength training is only 1 part, albeit a LARGE part. As is vitamin/mineral supplementation (green tea, fish oil,etc.). I am convinced that the DEADLIFT is basically the only heavy compound exercise a person needs as it hits almost the entire body. The muscles used in pressing (very secondary IMO) are the only muscles not hit by the DEADLIFT and they are covered by the 1-arm press. I look at Physical Culture as a lifestyle not a pasttime, similair to Hack or McFadden. The Road To Wellville is a good source (book version) of the minset I try to emulate.

I respectfully disagree with you. I don't agree that the posterior muscles are more impressive or more important, and I also think that you are not a good
example of a physical culturist because of your one demensional strength training routine. I further disagree, vehemently, that the deadlift is the only
compound movement that you need. Other than that everything else is great,oh wait a minute that was your whole thing, sorry.

I changed the topic title of this thread to - Deadlift - the number 1 exercise - as that is what the thread is about. ("hello everyone" gives no
information.)
Jgriff- we need to get DKB on here too! |

DL495 - What do you think of the Deep Knee Bend? Do you think the Deep Knee Bend is the same thing as a Squat? Just curious about your opinion because we have
a guy on this board who is just as fanatical about the Deep Knee Bend as you are about the Deadlift. I'd love to see you two square off.
Why is the deadlift SUPERIOR to the Deep Knee Bend in YOUR opinion? |

I had a feeling about you DL495 so I checked. You ARE THE SAME GUY AS DKB! YOUR CITY and IP ADDRESS ARE THE SAME AS DKB! You are a phony! Good bye DKB. The DKB
identity is banned. DL495 is still active on this section only for now. Why did you change from the DKB to the DL? Should we believe anything you say now?
