hello to everyone, just wondered if any of you had ever used a trap, shrug bar that wasn't of the diamond shape, you cannot buy the Gerrard bar in the UK
.all trap bars here are hexagonal,thanks.... i was thinking the other day how many of us live thousands of miles apart, yet train along many of the same
principles. some of us may even use the same rep and set scheme for some exercises. but few of us have trained with or watched each other train.if we did we
may find that even though lets say we all completed 1x 5 reps for one top set of bench presses our time under load may be very different,we would think we
where completing the same exercise as each other but it would be very different, with this in mind it takes me 40 seconds to complete my set of 5.i just thought
it may be interesting, amusing to see how we differ,,, thanks john

I use a hexagonal trap bar. i like it. I feel I get more work in my upper body than my legs tho,may just be me,and I seem to get no lower back work from one.
The fact that it seems to work upper back and not lower body isn't such a bad thing. I was just a little surprised that it doesn't work the lower body
as much as I thought it would. As far as time under load,I have been experimenting with slower reps. It is extremely difficult. 40 seconds for five reps equals
an 8 second rep, which is slower than most probably perform their reps. But also remember that your 40 seconds may not be the same as my 40,or someone elses,so
that also could be a difference when compairing. It is very difficult to maintain a certain rep cadence when the going gets tough. Its takes alot of
concentration to keep lowering slow towards the end,and pushing/pulling early in the set when its easier to move the weight. The difference in poundage used
during exercises is very humbling to say the least. I'm gonna stick with it and report my results.

The gym(s) where I'm at now don't have one. I used to use the diamond shaped trap bar, and I always thought it was a great piece of equipment.
Especially for high reps. I never actually tried to calculate my time under load while training. I just tried to do as much as possible, if it involved reps
then I tried to shoot for as many reps as possible. I would imagine that a good training partner is essential when it comes to keeping cadence, especially late
in a set when things tend to go south.

hi Jim,i haven't had a training partner for ten years, lol, i always used to un-rack the bar then lower slowly 2 - 3 secs, hold the bar an inch off the chest
count to two then slowly press,,,ha,, i did that in all my exercises for about ten years.after reading in hard gainer etc that you needed to be in complete
control of the weight you where lifting.i realise now how this limited my poundage's,but didn't at the time.i did get stronger but probably not at the
rate i should have done.it wasn't till i read more by Brooks that i realised i needed to train differently at times.when we read stuff we all interpret it
differently don't we.

As long as you're not advocating super-slow, then you'd be opening up a whole new can of worms.

no Jim i will save that for another day, lol. what i am saying is that because of how i interpreted what i had read i believed we all trained like that,in that
slow manner.how stupid is that!

Mine is a homemade rectangular shape from 2x4s. I use a regular pace as super slow never worked for me.
