my wife just got the new issue of TV Guide and its the "fitness" issue. Here are some comical direct quotes from 4 of the "Hollywood
Hunks": Robert Buckley, Lipstick Jungle--"today, Buckley, 27, hits the gym six days a week, focusing on one muscle group per day with weights and
wrapping up his workout with about 30 minutes on the treadmill" Shemar Moore, Criminal Minds--"he hits the gym 4 to 5 days a week doing 45 minutes of
cardio plus 157 pushups, 300 situps, pull ups, and weights to tone his arms. My friends call me the beast in the gym." Daniel Dae Kim, Lost--"Every
other day the actor does a 3 mile run up and down Honolulu's Diamond Head crater as a warm up for a two hour full-body workout with weights. I don't
work out for bulk, Kim says, I like lean muscles." Mario Lopez--MTV's Americas Best Dance Crew--"I like to mix it up because I don't want to
get bored, he says. You keep your muscles guessing"

I watched a program on the "Fitness Network" about one of these Fitness to the Stars guys. He lives in a mansion, has everything known to training to
pick from (Pool, tennis Courts...you name it) A great Gym in his house full of darn fine equipment (Free weights/machines) and what did he do with his
"Client?" he spent a half hour doing some of the silliest crap imaginable. Did not use any equipment except "wobble Boards" and Swiss
balls. I'd kill for a setup like his.

lets pretend that these guys actually do what they say they do. Wouldn't you sit down and literally cry if you were putting in that kind of time and work
to get what they are getting out of it for results? Jim that trainer's no dummie,he knows if he works these people even remotely hard they will walk away
forever and take their wallets with them!!!!!!!

nobody could do a 2 hour full body workout with weights like @WST or others. Impossible.

most people would cry and run out the door if they witnessed a WST strength training session. Never mind these pampered, spoiled celebrities.

They may cry but if they did the WST workout I think it would be more like crawling out.

I saw that issue, and I have to admit I laughed when I read that article. And it is true, most of these people would soil themselves if they ever witnessed
somebody being put through a workout by Bob or Dr. Ken. Hell, they would probably call the police and report a crime. The funny thing is that Mario Lopez is
being held up as some sort of workout god lately. He is all over the place ( shirtless of course.) He is being made out to be some sort of expert. What I'd
like is to have somebody place a 300 Lb. barbell on his shoulders and see what happens ( I'm sure it would not be pretty.) And it is true, unfortunately,
that wobble boards and swiss balls are the mainstays of most of these so-called stars' routines. I wonder how many of them have ever actually squatted or
done a deadlift?

Well, these stars being touted as fitness experts is no different than when they trot them out in front of some House or Senate panel as experts in a subject
such as global warming or the extinction of the naked kagaroo mole rat in East BFE. I have never understood how being a TV or movie actor makes them experts on
such diverse subject areas. Of course, you know Tommy Cruise is going to be our salvation and turn us all on to Dianetics. LOL. I'd love to hear the
Chaplains take on that. Reminds me of a line from "The Outlaw Josey Wales" where the old woman says, "I say that big talk's worth
doodly-squat."

For some reason, these so-called stars are given instant credibility. I could never understand it either, Keith. Yet, how many millions of people will vote for
a certain candidate without knowing anything about the person, their voting record, their ideas, or their associates. They will vote a certain way simple
because some clueless, out of touch celebrity tell them to.

my wife was asking me why I was laughing at their routines, and I said because they aren't training for strength, to which she replied "maybe they
don't want to be strong". I ceded her that point and acknowledged that okay they aren't lazy slugs and at least they are into fitness. I hence
explained the hard training philosophy and getting more bang for your buck including time effieciency when training in the style of all on this message board.
It got me to thinking how all the personal trainers at my gym put their clients thru what I consider to be marginally effective routines even once the newbies
have gotten used to the feel of strength training, and a large part of it is many clients don't want to be pushed hard nor are they willing to really bust
their butts and the trainers would lose business. You may not be able to squat 300 pounds but squat whatever you can to the limit and strive for more each
time, that's the key, but it is tough and I suppose one has to like the challenge as a form of self competition. That's the fun for me, plus I
don't want to be in the gym 6 days a week. Just I thought.
