It looks like the Yankees will land the player that they coveted above all others during the off-season. The numbers, like the player, are large. $161M over
seven years. Not bad work ( if you can get it.) Is any pitcher worth the gamble of a seven year contract? Can Sabathia play well and adapt in New York?
Will he hold up? ( At 300 pounds, there seems to be the potential to incur some sort of injury.) Will he put people in the seats of the new ( partially
taxpayer funded) stadium? Will he get the Yankees back to the World Series? And, most important, will he be able to accomplish the most important
tasks-----beating the Sox and taking headlines away from the Mets?

my answer: NO. Go on a diet CC! what a disgrace. I have a feeling he isn't going to last, for all the reasons you mentioned. The Yankees love those fat
lefties huh?

Actually, David Wells was a quality pitcher for them ten years ago. The Yanks could have kept Wells and not traded him for Clemens ( they didn't need
him--Clemens, that is.) I actually liked Wells, he didn't look pretty, but he sure did pitch some big games back then. Maybe he wasn't a classic
20-game winner, but the bigger the game, the tougher he was. And we KNOW that Wells was not on the juice, unless you count beer. One good thing about
CC---nobody could accuse him of taking performance-enhancing drugs--at least not by just looking at his physique. Does anybody remember Mickey Lolich??( Boy am
I dating myself or what?)

Are there any high-priced free agents left who have NOT signed with the Yankees ( besides manny)? I guess it's a good thing NYC taxpayers footed a larger
portion of the cost of the new stadium than originally anticipated, otherwise the team wouldn't be able to commit over $400M over the next seven years to
three players. Let's just hope that these additions will be able to deliver what A-rod has not---a world series ring. Having high-priced
"superstars" does not automatically ensure a championship, a fact that the yankees should know by now. I wonder how much a hot dog will cost at the
new ballpark?

the Texiera thing was amazing. Not afraid to spend that cash. They will be fielding a legit all-star team next year! why not get Manny maybe they can go 162-0.
I wonder if that would satisfy Steinbrenner

They can try to field an all-star team, but it will not necessarily mean they will win it all. They seem to have forgotten that besides big name talent you
need teamwork, sacrifice, hard-work and a willingness to place the team first. Their championship run in the late 90s had teams like that- very few
"superstars" but four world championships in five years. Those teams were built primarily through their farm system and shrewd trades. The 1998 team
is the best example, no outstanding individual seasons, but a team that went out and just won. Just going out and buying players doesn't guarantee that
they will perform on the field. And it could be a painful fact for the steinbrenner family if they get beat by a small market team.
