whats the proper or ideal way to do trap bar deadlift for reps?--- 1-touch the bar to the floor and immediately back up, 2- don't touch the floor at all
and do a turn around,3- set the bar on the floor let go and stand up between reps,4- keep the bar on the floor with grip still maintained leg bent reset then
rep again. thanks.

you could do them all the ways you mentioned. I usually do the #3 which is actually rest/pause. I like to take a deep breath and re-set. I have never been
injured doin deads this way so I stick to that method. I find doing a conventional/continuous rep set is too tempting to keep going when form breaks down. Try
em all see what you like and gain best on.

I start the set off by performing them as described in #1, then switch to reps as described in #4.

I tend to do #4. I like to take a second to check my starting form and then imagine a cord pulling from the top of me head as I lift. I just did 250 lbs for 20
reps this way this morning.

If I am working out I will do option #4. The two times I did a Trap Bar Rep Contest, the reps were done as in option #1. I guess it's a matter of personal
preference, but when training I like to do strict reps.

Keith, do you warm up to 250 or just go at it? Also, what other exercises did you do during the same 20 rep deadlift session, if any. thanks.

I workout twice per week. I start with a light warmup/stretch then do pushups, rows, overhead press, and pulldowns. These exercises are done in a circuit using
a 3X10 protocol with as little rest as possible. I then load approximately half the weight on the trap bar and do about 5 warm-up reps before tackling the 20
rep set.
I was doing chest press instead of pushups, but I have been having a problem with my right shoulder that the bench press really seemed to agravate. When I switched from chest press to pushups the aggravation in my shoulder seems to be much less. Not sure why the over head press doesn't seem to bother it much. Oh, well, I digress. Good Lifting. |

do you deadlift twice per week? I like how you do all the other exercises first and leave the mammoth 'til last. Maybe dips can take the place of the bench
press too. thanks for the input.

Forgot to mention that, I do trapbar deadlift one day and leg press the other. I have problems with one knee and don't trust it with a load of weight on my
back. I injured me knees when I was younger due to poor training advice. I have used a squat machine, but unfortunately where I workout now doesn't have
one.
The owner/trainer of the gym I was going to when I was about 12 told me the best way to strong legs was use all the weight on the leg extension machine even if I could only do a few reps. It didn't take but a couple of times of doing that before I was having problems walking without me knees hurting. Good Lifting. |
